Discover

Secondary research was conducted on different processes such as Agile, waterfall, and design methodologies. Process levels and CMMI were also looked into.

Qualitative interviews and Journey mapping. For this project, 12 project managers and 13 designers were interviewed.

Each interviewee was asked about one project that they had taken part in. Information was gathered about:

  • The stakeholders involved in the project
  • How the project was planned at first - the main phases and subphases
  • What went right and wrong at every step
  • If there were miscommunications between stakeholders that caused any problems
  • How the final outcome was different from the initial plan

Define

The synthesis of this primary research led to these findings:

Designers felt they faced issues articulating project plans for creative projects.

This led to many undesirable effects such as overshot timelines and compromises on the quality of output.

Managers conveyed that handling multiple projects simultaneously usually entailed documentation being missed , details being overlooked, and sometimes led to very unfavourable outcomes.
